A youth development institute, the Leadership Course, Abuja (LCA), has stressed the significance of training of youths on key ingredients of leadership in order to secure the future of the country.
Speaking at the closing of a five-day leadership training camping programme for Muslim youths in Northern Nigeria, held in Abuja recently, the director of the institute, Musa Obawarha, noted that the growth of any nation was directly related to the quality of its youth population, hence the need for a concerted effort to instill leadership qualities in Nigerian youths.
While discussing on the theme ‘Towards a Complete Personality’, he bemoaned the present situation where focus is primarily on academic qualifications to the detriment of moral, spiritual and social training, which are all necessary tools for effective leadership.
Obawarha called for the inclusion of leadership in the nation’s education curriculum, right from the secondary school level, to enhance the quality of graduates from Nigerian schools.
He said the LCA was a body committed to the growth and development of the nation’s human resources through effective training of youths.
While charging participants to put the lessons leant to effective use, another speaker at the event, Muhammad Daud, stated that training of youths on effective leadership would also make them job creators, thereby reducing the level of unemployment in the society.
He, therefore, charged stakeholders, especially the government, to partner with bodies that have already championed the initiative.
The leadership training exercise had Muslim youths from states across Northern Nigeria in attendance.
