Excessive greed, selfishness and lack of consideration for others by leaders as well as a fraction of the followers have been identified as the main issues militating against development in Nigeria.
This was expressed by Bishop of Bauchi Catholic Diocese, Hilary Dachelem who said that the problem of Nigeria is a multifaceted one, as both the leaders and the led are to blame for the situation the country found itself in now.
Speaking further, the Clergyman said that, “while the leadership wants to amass wealth for themselves at the detriment of the followers, the followers too, whenever the opportunity presents itself, will try to do the same on the belief that it is a right to do so”.
The Bauchi Catholic Bishop also opined that the security situation in the country calls for immediate attention in order to reduce to the barest minimum the spate of killings and other criminal activities, saying that, “things have so degenerated to the extent that taking of lives is no longer a difficult thing to do, what a calamity”.
He, however, commended Bauchi state government for being proactive in the area of providing security to all people of the state not minding the ethnoreligious differences, urging it to do more in the sector.

On the issue of corruption, the Clergyman advised that the fight should be total in order to ensure that everyone found culpable should be punished in line with the relevant laws of the country.
He, however, expressed confidence that with fervent prayers and supplication to God, Nigeria can be great again while things will get back to normal very soon.
