The Federal Ministry of Education and the Governing Council of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) have separately commended both the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Soremekun and the university management for what they described as ‘unprecedented development of the university.”
A representative of the Ministry, Mr Abdulahi Saliu Jubril, and the institution’s Governing Council Chairman, Professor Tunde Samuel, made these commendations while reflecting on the growth and development of the university in the last four years under the leadership of Professor Soremekun.
The council pointed out the Vice Chancellor’s efforts in terms of infrastructure and expansion of academic programmes that had led to an unprecedented increase in the population of students.
It acknowledged the manner the profile of the university had grown under Soremekun, both nationally and internationally, especially in the area of linkage and academic collaborations.
The University Governing Council in a letter dated February 4, signed by the Chairman, Professor Samuel and addressed to Soremekun, acknowledged and appreciated his meritorious service towards the development of the University as the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of University’s Management.

The letter states that the “University Governing Council particularly noted the unprecedented development in the University’s infrastructural projects. On this note, Council observes with delight the exponential growth in facilities – a situation which has greatly enhanced the profile of our fast-growing University.
“Similarly, the Council noted with pleasure the huge increase in the population of students since you assumed office in February 2016. Consequently, I have the pleasure to convey to you the decision of the University Governing Council to sincerely commend and appreciate you for your excellent and superlative performance,” the letter said.
The Ministry’s commendation came after it inspected some completed projects in the university, numbering over 40 executed by the Soremekun-led Management. The Ministerial team led a director, Mr Jubril and accompanied by the University Management, in its comment, noted with joy and satisfaction, the performance of the Vice-Chancellor and declared that “he has set a benchmark that would pose a serious challenge to his successors.”
The Ministry which also performs the supervisory role on other federal universities, including eight others, established the same time as FUOYE further noted that the development stride in the institution was exemplary and remained a standard for FUOYE’s peers and contemporaries, especially in the area of infrastructural development and academic growth.
Mr Jubril said going by with the record of achievements he saw, he would not hesitate to rate the institution first among the nine universities established by the Federal Government in 2011, adding that he was not surprised that the university is placed in the fourteenth position in a rating carried out by the National Universities Commission on all the universities in the country.
