Lagos State deputy governor, Dr Oluranti Adebule, has been awarded the most outstanding deputy governor in Nigeria by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).
The Award, according to a release from the Public Affairs Unit, Office of the Deputy Governor, Lagos, signed by Mr Odusina Akeem, was given to her in recognition of her various contributions to good governance especially in the implementation of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led administration’s reforms of the education sector.
ALGON comprising of the 774 LGs in the country in conjunction with Absolute Security and Consultancy Services Limited unanimously voted Adebule as the most outstanding deputy governor in the country at its 2018 Outstanding Grassroots Governor Award and Night of Recognition, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’ Adua Centre, Abuja a few days ago.
Some state governors that bagged the prestigious ALGON Grassroots Outstanding Governor Award for 2018 along with Adebule include: Governor Badaru Abubakar, who bagged the most outstanding Governor in Infrastructure Development, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, as Outstanding Governor in Agriculture, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, outstanding governor in Commerce and Industry and Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose, Outstanding Governor in Grassroots Development.

The release made available at the weekend further said that Dr Adebule bagged the Award based on “her pedigrees, excellent contributions to good governance, innovations and implementation of projects that have direct impacts on the development of the society.”
ALGON National President, Hon. Tanko Gambo Kagara said the Award was aimed at recognizing governors who had efficiently managed their scarce resources to better the lots of their people through the implementation of projects that had direct impacts on the lives of the people.
According to him, the Lagos deputy governor, Dr Adebule, became beneficiary of the Award in view of various initiatives she had introduced especially in the education sector.
Kagara said it was based on how various reforms of Governor Ambode led administration had been carefully implemented under her watch, especially in elevating the standard of education in the state to rank amongst the best in the world.
He further stated that Adebule’s humility, good conduct and passion for excellence made her stand tall and fit for the award, adding that her selflessness and dint for hard work qualified her for the award.
The ALGON boss, however, expressed the belief that Adebule’s recognition and subsequent award along with other recipients would motivate other people in similar positions of authority to work harder in bringing development to the people at the grassroots.
Receiving the award, the Lagos deputy governor, Dr Adebule, commended ALGON and Absolute Security and Consultancy Services Limited for their efforts at promoting good governance through recognition of excellence.
She noted that the award would further ginger her to do more in rendering selfless service to the society, noting that the reward for hard work is more work
Adebule, who was represented by her Permanent Secretary, Mrs Yetunde Odejayi, to receive the Award stated that the exemplary leadership quality of her boss, Governor Ambode, helped her to excel, saying that the governor gave her total freedom to use her initiatives to contribute to the success of his administration.
“I must sincerely dedicate this award to His Excellency, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode who gave me total support and freedom to work with him.
“He is a leader par excellence, he listens a lot and respects other people’s opinions in all matters, just as in the State Executive Council meetings, the governor would allow different opinions in all matters before we jointly take a decision that we know will benefit the masses.
“I, therefore, dedicate this award to him and I thank the Almighty Allah that you have considered me fit for this award without knowing anyone of you before. This award will further help me to do more as I promise my commitment to the vision of good governance as represented by my boss, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode,” Adebule pledged.
Dr Adebule was the Secretary to the State Government between 2011 and 2015. She was elected and sworn in as the Lagos Deputy Governor on May 29th, 2015. She also superintends over the State’s Ministry of Education.
