Lagos Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has stressed the need for a collaborative effort between state and Federal governments to bolster the country’s industries.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, while making the call on Friday, noted that such partnership would drive economic growth and prosperity, owing to the critical role industries play in shaping a nation’s economy.
Sanwo-Olu, spoke through the Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, while receiving the Hon. Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Enoh, on a courtesy call at the Deputy Governor’s Official Residence, Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, by working together, governments can create an environment conducive to industrial development, and ultimately benefiting the nation as a whole, stressing that the call to action underscores the importance of cooperation and strategic planning in achieving economic prosperity.
“As a government, we must continue to work together to create an enabling environment for the industry and stop the recent trend of industries relocating to other climes due to lack of government intervention, because the authorities are not aware of the industry challenges,” he said.
The governor emphasized that the nation’s industries were very important to her economic growth, positing that no nation can develop without strengthening and creating an enabling environment for its industries.
This was just as he further argued that the government needed to make a new approach in interfacing with the business industry, citing the example of Unilever which left because they felt the government did not positively influence the industry.
He assured that his administration was taking a proactive approach to address the challenges facing business owners in the state through the “BOS Meet Business initiative,” adding that the bold initiative aimed to shed light on the issues and find solutions, just as he acknowledged that some challenges required collaboration with Federal Government’s agencies to resolve them.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, therefore, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tunubu, for creating a Ministry that would interface with the Industry to solve their challenges and create an enabling environment for them to thrive.
Earlier in his address, Minister of State for Industry in the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Sen. Enoh, disclosed that the team was currently in Lagos for an Industrial Tour, to gain firsthand insight into the constraints and challenges faced by industries in the country.
The minister said the tour would enable the ministry to know how the government can support and enable them to thrive in their various industries.
According to him, by gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by various industries, the government can develop effective strategies to foster growth and development.
“This proactive approach will enable the government to create a more favorable business environment, driving economic prosperity and benefiting the nation as a whole,” he said.
He expressed his appreciation to the Lagos State government for creating an enabling environment for businesses in the state to flourish, assuring that Mr President would continue to support the industries for the betterment of the nation.
