NOW in its 18th day, the #HallelujahChallenge launched by gospel sensation, Nathaniel Bassey, has taken social media by storm.
The one-hour Hallelujah challenge, spearheaded by Bassey and launched on Instagram, calls for praises to God, for one hour, beginning at midnight, and began on June 1, will run to June 30, 2017.
Basing the initiative on Acts 16:25-26, in the Bible, where Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises to God, which resulted in the miraculous opening of the prison doors, behind which they were locked, Bassey, who was last week featured on CNN’s African Voices, told the global television network that he felt led by the spirit of god to dedicate the month to giving praise to the Almighty.
“Against the backdrop of the challenges in the world today, especially in our nation, with the scourge of terrorism and the recession … it has brought a sense of hope and respite. It is a reflection of the desire and hunger for answers and for hope,” Bassey told CNN.
Also on his Facebook page, Bassey, who has been receiving various testimonies from those who had participated in the challenge, encouraged people to join the movement, praying that “This June, your status will change suddenly for good in Jesus’ name, just like that.”
Probably as a response to the negative criticism the call has faced in recent times, Bassey, on his twitter handle @nathanielblow on Friday, stated that “In the school of greatness, criticism is one of the courses you take. But, the good news is that, it’s a minor course. Nothing so special.”
Bassey’s movement, which has caught the attention of celebrities, has generated various hashtags, including #JustLikeThat; #Olowogbogboro, among others, and in spite of the negative criticism from some quarters, is gaining strong in terms of positive feedback.
