Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, in his effort to sympathise and show concern to Zainab Aliyu and Ibrahim Abubakar, both detained and subsequently released by Saudi Arabia for alleged drug trafficking, has offered cash gift of N6milion to both of them.
The Governor who on Thursday announced the donation when he received Federal Government delegation led by special adviser to the President on Diaspora Matters, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, at government house, Kano State.
According to a statement signed by Malam Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to governor Ganduje, a copy made available to pressmen said the delegation were on an official presentation of Zainab and Ibrahim to Kano State government.
‎Ganduje who sympathized with the victims and their relative over false and criminally planting illicit substance in their luggage while on their way for lesser hajj deemed it necessary to present them the gift.‎
However, he commended the timely intervention of Federal Government who rescued their innocent lives. He noted that his government felt it necessary to compensate the victims with N3 million each having suffered needless punishment for sin they know nothing about.

Earlier, the Chairperson of Nigeria Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed that the delegation were at the Government House, to officially hand over the two indigenes of the state to the government.
She however explained that ‎investigations conducted by the Airport Authorities and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano, discovered a drug cartel at the Kano International Airport, Kano, that specialises in planting illicit drugs on innocent travelers without their knowledge.‎ The six syndicates are facing criminal allegations at Federal high court in Kano.
It would be recalled that both Zainab and Abubakar commended the Nigerian Government, Nigerian Consulate in Jeddah, Chairperson of Nigeria Diaspora Commission and Kano Government for securing their release.
