The Appointments and Promotions Committee (A&PC) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, has confirmed the appointment of Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
The university stated this in a press statement signed by the Head, Public Relations and Publications, Information Unit, Mrs Lydia Legbo, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday in Minna, saying that the confirmation was made at the university’s 87th meeting held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.
The release stated further that the University Senate, during its 480th regular meeting held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, elected him as DVC designate, stressing that the new DVC, Academic Prof.Abdullahi Mohammed, a Professor of Civil Engineering, was born on February 28, 1972, in Lapai, in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.
Mrs. Lydia Legbo, an assistant registrar, said Prof. Mohammed attended Kobo Primary School Lapai from 1977 to 1983 and Muhammadu Kobo Secondary School Lapai from 1983 to 1989, emphasising that he graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in 1998 and had his mandatory National Youth Service with Zenith Engineers, Kaduna State, from 1999 to 2000.
The statement added further that Prof. Mohammed started his working career at the university as an assistant lecturer in 2000, where he obtained his M.Eng. degree in 2003.
He capped his educational pursuit with a PhD in Concrete Technology at the University of Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia, in 2011, saying that the new DVC (Academic) was at different times Level Adviser, Welfare Officer, Project Coordinator, Departmental Project Coordinator, Postgraduate Coordinator, and Head of Department.
According to Mrs. Legbo, the new DVC Academic was up until his new appointment as Director, Academic Planning.
Furthermore, Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed was described as a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), which is registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and has served as a resource person to COREN and the National Universities Commission (NUC) in the resource verification and accreditation of programmes in several universities in the country.
It was further learned that in addition to serving on the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) selection committee for the overseas scholarship scheme, he has over 50 national and international journal publications and has supervised undergraduate, PGD, M.Eng., and PhD students.
He is happily married and has children. The appointment, which is with effect from November 7, 2023, is for two years in the first instance, as further maintained.
