Four persons have been confirmed dead as over 1,000 farmlands were submerged by flood in two local government councils of Niger State.
Over two 200 houses, a block industry and some other items belonging to one Alhaji Haruna Mure were also destroyed in Mashegu and Kontagora local government areas of the state on Thursday.
Director-General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Mallam Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, who confirmed the deaths, however, stated that some people are still missing.
NSEMA DG explained further that the agency has since commenced investigations into the flood disasters in the two local governments in order to unravel the immediate or remote cause of the floods.
A resident of Mashegu local government area, Malam Abubakar Imam from Kasanga bridge area of the council told Nigerian Tribune in an interview by telephone that over 200 houses were destroyed with many crops washed away by the flood.
He thereby appealed to governments at all levels to, as matter of urgency, come to the aids of the victims with the view to ameliorating their hardships.
Similarly, another victim of the floods disaster, Alhaji Murtala Salisu of Bubban rami, in Kontagora local government council of the state noted that the flood washed away some of his properties including over 30 bags of rice.
