A devastating incident occurred on Sunday at the Gubi Water treatment plant in Bauchi State, claiming the lives of four staff members of the Bauchi State Water Agency.
The victims, identified as Ibrahim Musa, Shu’aibu Hamza, Jamilu Yunusa, and Abdulmalik Ibrahim Hamza, were performing routine maintenance in one of the plant’s reservoirs when the tragedy unfolded.
According to reports, the incident involved a father and son duo, with the son reportedly preparing for his wedding in the next two weeks.
Witnesses stated that one victim attempted to clear a fish from the reservoir and got drowned, prompting another person to try and rescue him, resulting in a chain of events that ultimately claimed four lives.
Residents of Gubi village, where the treatment plant is located, described the incident as tragic and devastating, throwing the community into mourning.
While attributing the incident to the will of Allah, they urged the affected families to bear the loss with faith.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Abdulrazak Nuhu Zaki, attended the funeral prayers and paid condolences to the bereaved families. As of the time of reporting, no official statement had been released by the Ministry of Water Resources.
The victims were buried according to Islamic rites shortly after the incident.
