The Vice-Chancellor of the Fountain University, Osogbo, Professor Amidu Olaleken Sanni has given the number of the newly matriculated students of the institution for the new academic session to be four hundred and fifty-one (451).
The Vice-Chancellor who made this known at the matriculated programme held at the university main hall, Eti- Osa, explained that 319 out of them were admitted for full-time programme 103 for part-time courses, 9 for Diploma in Arabic and International studies while 20 students were admitted for postgraduate programme.
While addressing the students, the vice-chancellor advised them against wearing indecent dresses to school saying, the school management would not tolerate such.
According to him, “As a faith-oriented institution, we do not tolerate indecent dressing, “So, you must adhere strictly to our dress code which includes the conspicuous wearing of your university valid ID card at all times when you are on the campus. Please note that any staff member of the University is empowered to enforce this code.”
“Also note that you need to record a minimum of 70% attendance at lectures/practical sessions to qualify for examination in courses for which you register. The University now has an electronic system to verify your attendance level.
“He stressed that, ” the University by its very nature of being an Islamic-oriented or faith-inspired institution places a very high premium on good morals and applies measured but appropriate sanctions in respect of all acts of indiscipline, including absenteeism from class or University events.”
” We also decry physical assaults, substance abuse, unauthorized outing from the university, insubordination, and all forms of examination malpractices or membership of unapproved societies.”
“Outright dismissal and public display of details of such lawbreakers are normally done, so do not bring disgrace to yourself and family. The social media can be a making or damaging tool for you, your future, and indeed this University whose certificate you intend to carry as your identity indicator.”
“Justify the investment of your parents in your future by facing your studies squarely to ensure that you come out in flying colours at the end of your studies.
“I wish to congratulate all our new students for successfully gaining admission into this great, faith-oriented, skill activating University which is just getting into a new phase since its establishment in 2007, some fourteen years ago.
“When you consider the fact that most of the public universities that had offered admission places to prospective students have been on intermittent strikes, at least since September 2018 and again since March 2020, your sense of achievement for gaining admission into a strike-free university with a stable academic calendar becomes more pleasing.”
“With the recent addition of two new colleges, namely, the College of Law and College of Basic Medical and Health Sciences, I particularly welcome the ALPHA set of the two Colleges. Students admitted to the hitherto existing colleges, that is, the College of Management and Applied Sciences (COMAS) and the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CONAS) equally deserve a special welcome, as they are the first beneficiaries of a repackaged and redesigned curriculum system.”
“The entire curricula of our academic programmes here at Fountain University have been revised and upgraded to reflect the new trend in a new world where more emphasis is placed on skill development, entrepreneurship, and IT versatility rather than pure academics, he concluded.
