These are certainly not the best of times for Chike Oti, a former Police Public Image Maker in charge of Lagos State, who has been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease.
The former Lagos Police Image Maker was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and was deployed to the Railway Command of the Nigerian Police Force.
Until his promotion, the ailing Oti was a Divisional Police Officer in one of the divisions in Lagos State.
In a message to some of his colleagues on WhatsApp, he said: “Good morning, my dear brothers and sisters. My name is ACP Chike Godwin Oti. I was recently transferred as AC’ DFA, Railway Police Command, Ebute Metta, Lagos.

I wish to inform you that I was recently diagnosed with stage 5 renal failure, also known as end-stage renal disease (kidney failure), caused by unmitigated high blood pressure at Lagoon Hospital, Bourdillon Street, Ikoyi, Lagos.
It has been recommended that my only chance of survival is to undergo haemodialysis twice a week until I am able to raise N25,000,000 (25 million Naira) for a kidney transplant.”
The senior police officer added, “On my own, I have spent about N3.5 million for the one week I spent at the aforementioned hospital. The cost of staying alive is currently beyond my means.”
He pleaded, “I therefore seek your help, dear brothers and sisters, to overcome this terrible illness.
