Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly on Monday elected, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, as the Speaker of the 9th legislature.
Oluomo, representing Ifo 1 state constituency was the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House and was elected into the new position unopposed.
He was nominated by Hon. Babatunde Sobukola (Ikenne State Constituency) and seconded by Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju.
Similarly, Hon. Oludare Kadiri (Ijebu North 11) was unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly following a nomination from the duo of Sobukola and Adeyanju respectively.
The new Speaker was elected after the Assembly Deputy Clerk, Mr. Adedeji Adeyemo, had announced the need for election of Speaker, his deputy and other principal officers of the House.
Oluomo in his acceptance speech promised that the 9th legislature would work for the peace and progress of the state.
The Speaker also promised that the legislators would cooperate with the executive arm of government to bring dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
“We shall work in harmony to increase and enhance the socio-economic development of the state,” he added.
The Speaker thereafter inaugurated the remaining 24 members of the Assembly as his first official duty.

Oluomo appreciated God and his colleague-lawmakers for their support and trust, with a promise to promote the existing mutual interdependence among the three arms of government.
The new Speaker assured that the 9th legislature would work as a partner in progress to promote and sustain good governance and ensure the delivery of democratic dividends to the grassroots.
According to him, the principle of separation of powers encouraged the legislative arm to partner the executive for the overall socio-economic development of the state.
The Speaker, after a thirty-minute recess, reconvened to announce the names of principal officers including, Honourable Yusuf Sheriff Abiodun as Majority Leader, Bashir Oladunjoye as Deputy Majority Leader, Atinuke Bello as Chief Whip, while Sola Adams would serve as Deputy Chief Whip, Ganiyu Oyedeji as Minority Leader, Jemili Akingbade and Musefiu Olatunji as Minority Whip and Deputy Minority Leader respectively.
Dignitaries at the inauguration included Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, former Speakers, Honourables Muyiwa Oladipo, Titi Oseni-Gomez and Suraju Ishola Adekunbi likewise former members of the State House of Assembly, former Head of Service, Elder Sola Adeyemi, party chieftains, traditional rulers, the body of Permanent Secretaries in the state.
In a related development, the Assembly also passed four motions bothering on Witnesses, False Evidence, ( notice to) the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command and Votes and Proceedings.
