Senator Teslim Folarin representing Oyo Central District has charged trainees in Information Communication Technology (ICT) from his constituency to see the training as an opportunity to diversify in their trades and further enhance their businesses.
Folarin, who spoke at the closing of the training he facilitated for his constituents in Oyo West and Afijio local government areas of the state, said the rationale behind the training was to also assist them in diverse ways through which they can make ends meet in their chosen careers.
He noted that the world was changing and as new things were evolving, he considered it important to give his constituents the opportunity to learn and upgrade to what is the vogue, especially on how to make use of ICT to market their products and connect to the world at large.
He urged the beneficiaries to make use of the knowledge they acquired and the accompanying grants to better their lives and the society at large.
Prince Biodun Adeyemo, who had declared the event open on Monday, said participants were drawn from towns and communities in Oyo West and Afijio, and apart from the training, each participant was also entitled to grants, certificate of participation and other items to enhance productivity and application of the knowledge acquired.
Over 100 traders and artisans from the Oyo metropolis benefited from ICT skill acquisition on products and wares marketing for co-operators and it was organised by the Federal Cooperative College.
The Provost Federal College of Forestry, Professor Oyeleye Sunday Stephen, said the beneficiaries of the training should consider themselves lucky because the programme would help them in the advancement of their businesses.
Oyeleye who was accompanied by the registrar, Dr Ademilua Victoria urged the participants to continue to make use of their training to positively impact society at large.
One of the participants, Ahmed Soliu, a trader from Oyo west local government said the training is not only timely but effective because it has further exposed him to how to market his product and relate with customers online
Adebayo Adeyemi, a photographer who was one of the participants said he would be forever grateful to Senator Folarin for the opportunity given to him to participate in the training.
According to him” I am happy to be part of this training because apart from learning how to use Internet facilities, I can now send my video and photography to my clients online, I can now make use of social media to market myself and also make money.
Ahmed Soliu Adewale, a trader in Oyo said, though I am not new in online marketing but I have learnt new things during the training, I will apply the knowledge to my business and I am hopeful that it will yield positively.
