Flooding: CSO tackles works ministry over alleged sabotage of FG

A Civil Society Organisation, Governance Monitor Initiative (GMI) has raised concern over alleged role by authorities of the Ministry of Works inimical to efforts by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to tackle incidents of floods across the country.

The GMI Programme Manager, Frank Chigozie raised the concern while addressing newsmen in Abuja.
He accused the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Mahmuda Mamman of deliberately frustrating efforts to move the country’s infrastructure development forward which he noted amount to a sabotage of the position of the federal government.

His position was however dismissed as unfounded by Director of Press in the Ministry, Blessing Lere-Adams.

But the CSO maintained that the Permanent Secretary alleged tardiness in treatment of files was stalling many critical activities in the ministry including payment of contractors.

“So, we view everything he is doing now, including stalling progress of government processes by being selective on the files he treats, as a deliberate act of sabotage with a view to ensuring that the present administration fails”

The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing spokeserson, however described the allegation leveled against Mamman as not only vague but a figment of the imagination of his traducers.

The director of press in the ministry, Blessing Lere-Adams, noted that there are two things that she observed in the accusation. That firstly, there is no signature of anybody who is writing the petition and secondly, no date on it. So she is going to drop it.

“I’m sorry, the petition must be authenticated by these: an identifiable address date/reference well endorsed with a name/mobile number inclusive. Only then it can be attended to,” she said.
