Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has said that the minimum qualification for been appointed as local government caretaker chairman is now a degree or Higher National Diploma.
Special Adviser to the governor, Tahav Agerzua, who gave an insight into the deliberation at the PDP caucus meeting held in government house, Makurdi was the composition of local government caretaker committees.
Since the tenure of the present council chairmen expires in June this year, the state government is proposing the composition of caretaker committees.

The special adviser in the statement said that Governor Ortom appealed to stakeholders from each local government to deliberate and forward three names for selection of one of them as chairman.
“The stakeholders”, he said, “should include national and state assembly members, those in the state executive council as well as those holding party positions who should meet at the local government headquarters to deliberate on the matter.
“The governor stated that the law provides for a caretaker chairman and seven supervisors.
He added, ‘those nominated for the chairmanship position should possess at least a degree or Higher National Diploma”.
