The Federal government has moved to reduce the congestion of passengers at the Abuja-Kaduna rail service by providing additional coaches in order to accommodate the high population that is turning up to patronise the train services.
Abuja-Kaduna train service has witnessed an unusual upsurge of passengers in recent days. A development that many believe is as a result of the rampant kidnapping on Abuja-Kaduna high way.
Speaking to newsmen in Ibadan on Monday, the Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi said he had directed that two coaches should be moved from Itakpe-Warri rail line to Abuja train service.
“I have given directives that they should move two additional coaches from Warri to Abuja because there are not too many passengers on Itakpe-Warri rail service because it leads to nowhere, it stops at Itakpe so where are you heading to!” he lamented.

He said until the will be a rail track connecting Itakpe to Lokoga, then to Abuja, the rail service will not be of ultimate benefit to Nigerians.
On Lagos-Ibadan rail project, the Minister said the May deadline for the train ride from Lagos to Ibadan might no longer be visible till June.
Amaechi said the possibility for the May target is “50/50, it is 50/50 because the engineers have said we should give them till June, so what is the benefit of insisting that it must be May?” he questioned.
Lagos-Ibadan rail project is experiencing a delay at kilometre 121 to 134 due to a high level of underground water, bad soil and underground rocks.
