Let water be your new friend
There is no time like the present to embrace drinking fluids, especially water. This will prevent dehydration, as well as keep you healthy. Be careful not to overdo things though, especially with ice-cold water – you risk illnesses such as pneumonia if you overdo chilled water. Water has a way of making the skin feel supple, giving it the glow it deserves.
Eat healthy
This hot season is no excuse to abandon healthy eating habits, simply because the weather is uncomfortable. You can help get out of the dehydration phase by eating more fruits and vegetables. Some kinds of junk food usually come ‘rich’ in unhealthy ingredients, which may lead to increased oil content on the skin, which is not a good thing during this hot weather. Sweating is already uncomfortable enough. Also, be mindful of the time you eat to avoid unnecessary weight gain.
Exercise regularly
Even if your job requires you to sit or stand for the better part of the day, take any opportunity you get to move around. Instead of taking a cab to the front of your home, walk some distance. And for those who profess Christianity, dance on Sundays – it’s another form of exercise. And if Saturdays are indeed for owambes for you, take full advantage of the free time to dance when the opportunity presents itself. The important thing is to get your body moving somehow. Little drops make the ocean – few minutes of exercise lead to overall benefits in weight loss!
Treat skin infections
Even for something as seemingly unimportant as a pimple, get the right treatment and get the dot off your face. Hot weather is a breeding ground for skin infections as a result of the uncomfortable weather and the effect of the heat on the skin.
Invest in quality sun-protection products
Sunglasses, hats, scarves, stockings, and covered shoes are fashion products you should invest in this season. Keep your beautiful skin out of the sun as much as possible. You’ll gain little or nothing from exposing your chest area, laps and usually-covered places to the blazing sun, save ugly patches. Ever wonder why the covered parts of the body usually appear more beautiful than the other parts. Take a hint from that!
P.S. If you can, cut back on oil-based products as much as possible, especially if it can be avoided. A sweaty face, plastered with oily makeup is usually better imagined!
