The Ogun State Government said it has concluded plans to procure additional 20 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), as one of the ways to fortify all the security agencies towards peaceful elections.
Stating this on Saturday was the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, at the 1st Security Summit organised by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in the Southwest in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun Command, held at the June 12, Cultural Centre, Abeokuta.
Amosun represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa, said the procurement of the security equipment became necessary in view of alleged plan to breach security by “some people who are not sure of their fate” in the election.
The governor called on the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Professor Abdulganiyu Raji and other stakeholders to abide by the rules of the election in order to make the polls a free and credible one.
Amosun said: “Elections are known to be peaceful in Nigeria provided every one of us plays by the rules.

“As a government, we want INEC, the CSOs and everybody to take note that our government and our party shall play by the rules. We will not only play our part to ensure security before, during and after the election, but we shall cooperate fully with INEC, the security agencies and the observers to see that exercise is memorable for all of us.
“People want to breach security when they are not sure of their fate. In Ogun State, we are sure of where we stand. We are sure of where we stand with our people.
“In a free and fair election, we are confident that God will be there for us. Please, the observers, regulators and all of you, we should not allow ourselves to be used for untoward purposes.”
The REC appealed to agents of various security outfits in the state to protect the lives of the electorate during the election, saying that the electoral body would not allow the use of phones at the voting point, to checkmate any form of vote buying.
The state commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, said security agencies in the state are working out modalities to ensure peaceful polls.
Useless country. Just because of election not to fight war.
You never pay workers salaries, you get money to buy APC vehicles for election rigging
The weapons you are planning to assemble would work against you. Pensioners prayers would haunt you
And you cannot pay minimum wage of 30k. Do want to start your own state policing.
