The authorities of Ekiti State University (EKSU) in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, have announced the postponement of the commencement of examinations for the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Eddy Olanipekun, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday. He said the one-week postponement was approved by the Senate following consideration of some factors.
He disclosed that the examination, earlier scheduled for Monday, August 12, 2024, would now commence on August 19, 2024.
He said, “Examination will now commence on the 19th of August, as against the earlier scheduled date of the 12th August. That decision was taken in view of unforeseen circumstances that affected the calendar.
“The one-week extension will allow the students to have adequate time to prepare for their exams so that they can do well. The decision was taken by the Senate today (Wednesday).”
He noted that the university would soon introduce two new programmes (Doctor of Pharmacy and Dental Surgery), adding that the university is awaiting the team and reports from the National University Commission and the professional bodies.
“We are in the process of commencing two new programmes at the university, and one of such programmes is a Doctor of Pharmacy, and the other is a Bachelor of Dental Surgery.
“We are expecting the visitation panels, both from NUC as well as the professional regulatory agency. We are still expecting their reports.
“We are optimistic that the report will be positive, and if the outcome is positive, that means we will be admitting into the programmes, i.e., Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery.”
On the recent promotion of some academic staff to professorship, Olanipekun said, “Very recently, to God be the glory, we promoted 70 academic staff to the rank of professor, and they cut across all departments and faculties.
“We equally promoted 60 to the position of Readers, which is equivalent to Associate Professor. The council has approved all the promotions.
“What can interest you is that in the Faculty of Law, we now have seven professors, up from the two we had in the past.”
