No fewer than 2,220 students took the oath as the pioneer students of the new Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, for the 2020/2021 academic session.
The university, formally a college of education before the upgrade by the administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi in October last year, admitted 2,200 students for its degree programmes and 20 students for the National Certificate Education (NCE) courses.
Speaking at the maiden matriculation ceremony, the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Victor Adeoluwa, noted that the authorities of the institution had made tremendous contributions in ensuring that the new students received functional, quality and affordable education.
He advised the new students to be dedicated and remain committed to their mission in the school, saying that the university had zero tolerance for moral decadence and social vices such as indolence, cultism and examination malpractices. He warned the students to desist from these acts or face severe punitive measures.
He added that the matriculation ceremony was important in initiating the new students into the university and the task before them, saying, “our country needs a crop of young people to put it on the map of invention. This is the role we envision for you and we have prepared to invest in you accordingly.”
He added: “This institution boasts of adequate facilities and qualified personnel to support sound teaching and learning process.
“We are not relenting in our aggressive drive to provide more state-of-the-art facilities in order to make the university top notch”.
The registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), Professor Isaq Oloyede while welcoming the new students said the board would continue to offer necessary support to the university.
Represented by the Ekiti State coordinator of JAMB, Abdulhakeem Abdulhameed, the registrar advised the management of the university to work in maintaining the standard of academic excellence towards producing problems-solving graduates.
