The battle to end the “spraying” of naira notes in parties among well-to-do citizens is ongoing following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) arrest and conviction of Bobrisky.
In all fairness, currency abuse is rampant among the rich Nigerians and Bobrisky has been used by EFCC as a scapegoat.
I will be very glad if the EFCC chairman, Mr Ola Olukoyede, can henceforth send out officials to crack down on more naira abusers and give it the same wide publicity as was done to Bobrisky.
There are mixed reactions from all Nigerians both home and abroad following the arrest and conviction of Bobrisky. He is expected to be released in October this year.
The EFCC should begin to sensitise Nigerians on naira abuse and inform all Nigerians that spraying of naira notes in various parties and clubs is now a crime.
The EFCC should not end its war on currency abuse with Bobrisky. Nigerians are expecting the EFCC to crack down on more naira abusers and charge them to court.
It is a pity that Bobrisky who didn’t steal the billions of naira belonging to the Federal Republic of Nigeria is currently serving a jail term of six months for the offence of currency abuse.
In addition, the EFCC should not close its eyes to the corruption cases against politicians. Many Nigerians are more interested in such cases involving politicians than the cases of currency abuse. Those who have stolen public funds should be exposed and sent to jail like Bobrisky.
