The President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has urged wealthy individuals and organisations to complement government’s efforts in providing quality education, saying government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility.

Gwarzo said wealthy members of society could support education in several ways, including offering scholarships to less privileged children, providing conducive learning environments and funding research projects in tertiary institutions.

He said education remained one of the best legacies parents could bequeath to their children, urging individuals blessed with resources to invest in the sector.

Gwarzo made the call during a working visit to Northwest University, Kano, where he congratulated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero, on her appointment and presented her with a brand-new Hyundai vehicle.

He also commended the Kano State Government for appointing Bayero as vice chancellor, describing the decision as an indication of confidence in her competence.

Gwarzo, who was received by Bayero and other senior officials of the university, said the visit was primarily to congratulate her and appreciate her contributions to the development of the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), where she previously served as a visiting professor.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the Governor for appointing you. He has identified competence, and since your assumption of office, I have realised and heard about the achievements you have so far recorded,” he said.

Describing the visit as historic, Gwarzo commended Bayero for her commitment and contributions to MAAUN during her tenure.

“I’m here to pay a historic visit to a woman who has given her best to MAAUN. This is the time that you need our support as part of our appreciation for your service,” he said.

Gwarzo gifts VC vehicle

Gwarzo explained that the Hyundai vehicle was his personal gift to Bayero in recognition of her contributions to education and was separate from the Hilux vehicle previously donated to Northwest University.

“I’m giving you this vehicle as a personal gift, not to the university, in appreciation of your service to MAAUN. We gifted the Hilux vehicle to the university, and this brand-new Hyundai is for you personally,” he said.

He prayed for divine guidance for Bayero in the discharge of her responsibilities.

Gwarzo has previously supported Northwest University with vehicles and other gestures aimed at strengthening the institution.

It would be recalled that during the administration of Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, Bayero’s predecessor, Gwarzo donated a luxury vehicle to support the transportation of students.

The latest gesture, according to the report, underscores Gwarzo’s continued support for institutions and individuals contributing to the advancement of education and academic excellence.
