Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced plans to investigate the reported $10 million spent by former Governor Godwin Obaseki on revamping the state-owned newspaper, The Nigerian Observer.
During an unannounced visit to the Newspapers’ premises, Okpebholo and his team were shocked to find the facility locked, preventing them from inspecting the machines allegedly purchased by the previous administration.
The once-thriving media house had been shut down by Obaseki for renovations, with the promise of making it competitive with national dailies.
However, instead of improvements, the newspaper has remained non-operational.

Expressing his displeasure, Okpebholo questioned the whereabouts of the supposed investment, stating that there was no evidence of work being done or staff present at the premises.
He vowed to return and personally inspect the buildings to verify the existence of the equipment allegedly bought with taxpayers’ money.
“Edo people need to ask what happened to their money spent on revamping The Observer Newspaper,” the governor said.
