A mouth-watering package including a pension benefit of a residential building not worth more than N200million and a pension for life at a rate equivalent to 100 per cent of his last annual salary have been approved for the immediate past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, by the State House of Assembly.
Other benefits to be enjoyed by Oshiomhole are an officer not above salary grade level 12 as special assistant, and a personal secretary not below grade level 10, who shall be selected by the former governor from the public service of Edo State.
The Assembly at a plenary on Wednesday also approved similar package for Oshiomhole’s former deputy, Pius Odubu, including a pension benefit of a residential building not worth more than N100 million, 100 per cent of his last annual salary as pension and free medical treatment for him and his immediate family.
Adams Oshiomhole and Pius Odubu had on November 12, 2016, completed two tenures of eight years as governor and deputy governor of Edo State respectively.
The former governor and his deputy will enjoy the package if the law is assented by the new governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The Assembly okayed an amendment to the bill entitled, “A bill for a law to amend the 2007 Pension Rights of the Governor and Deputy Governor Law.”
The amendment made to the pension rights of the former governor and his former deputy was for the duo to enjoy residential buildings worth N200 million and N100 million in any location of their choice in Nigeria.
The former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is also entitled to have two cooks, two armed policemen as security, three vehicles to be bought by the Edo State Government and liable to be replaced every five years, three drivers, who shall be selected by the former governor and paid by the state government, as well as free medical treatment for the governor and his immediate family.
The law will also allow Odubu to have a personal staff not above salary grade level 12 as special assistant, a personal secretary not below grade level 09, who shall be selected by the former deputy governor from the public service of the state, a cook, two policemen as security.
Also approved for him are two vehicles to be bought by the state government and liable to be replaced every five years, and two drivers who shall be selected by the former deputy governor and paid by the state government.
