Diphtheria: Kaduna records 17 deaths

Kaduna State has reported seventeen deaths suspected to be from a Diphtheria outbreak in six local government areas of the state.

Last week, the first case of the disease was reported in Kafachan, where 10 children were reported to have died from the illness.

Dr Aisha Abubakar Sadiq, the Director of Public Health at the State Ministry of Health, revealed this while briefing journalists.

She stated that seventeen deaths have been recorded so far in the state, and approximately seventy-five suspected diphtheria cases have been reported in several local government areas.

To combat the spread of the disease, the state government has implemented drastic measures.

This includes dispatching quick response teams to affected areas and conducting awareness campaigns in affected communities through traditional rulers and healthcare personnel.

Dr Sadiq advised the general public to report any unidentified symptoms of the outbreak promptly for immediate action to be taken.
