No fewer than 500 market women across Delta State have benefited from cash grants and business support tools under an empowerment programme organised by Fidelity Bank Plc in collaboration with the state’s First Lady, Tobore Oborevwori.
The initiative, held in Asaba on Tuesday under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme tagged “Give Her Power,” provided beneficiaries with cash grants, sewing machines, and grinding machines aimed at supporting small-scale businesses.
Speaking at the event, Deaconess Oborevwori, who is also founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, described the programme as a step towards promoting economic inclusion and improving livelihoods among women in the state.
According to her, the initiative was designed to restore hope, strengthen families, and create opportunities for women to become more economically self-reliant.

“Today, we are here to witness the generosity of Fidelity Bank Plc as they put smiles on the faces of 500 women through its collaboration with the You Matter Charity Foundation. This event is not only about distribution; it is about transformation, restoring hope, strengthening families, and building a more inclusive and prosperous society, one woman at a time,” she said.
The First Lady noted that 400 women received cash grants totalling N20 million, while 50 beneficiaries received grinding machines, and another 50 were presented with sewing machines.
She further announced an additional N20 million contribution from her foundation, raising the cash support for each beneficiary from N50,000 to N100,000.
Oborevwori urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the support to grow their businesses and improve their family livelihoods.
She also commended Fidelity Bank for partnering with her foundation, describing the collaboration as an example of how corporate organisations can contribute to community development.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Director, South at Fidelity Bank Plc, Pamela Shodipo, said the initiative reflected the bank’s commitment to supporting communities through its Fidelity Helping Hands Programme.
According to her, the programme enables staff of the bank to identify and support impactful community projects across the country.
She disclosed that the bank donated N20 million to the You Matter Charity Foundation to support the empowerment scheme, adding that investing in women has positive economic effects on families and communities.
Also speaking, Regional Bank Head, Augusta Anyanwu-Egbom, advised beneficiaries to cultivate good savings habits, improve customer relations, and adopt better product packaging strategies to sustain their businesses.
One of the beneficiaries, Joy Osegbuwa, expressed appreciation to the organisers, describing the support as timely and beneficial to market women across the state.
