An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday ordered the remand of a Mechanic, Wasiu Yekini, who allegedly defrauded his friend of N230, 000 under false pretences.
Yekini, who pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing, was ordered to be remanded in Nigerian Correctional Centre by Magistrate Bukola Mogaji.
Mogaji adjourned the case until Dec. 13 for facts and sentencing.
According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, the defendant who resides at No 3, Yetunde Brown St., Ifako, committed the offences between April and May in Gbagada area of Lagos.
“The defendant collected the sum of N230, 000 from his friend, Matthew Adebayo, with the pretence of purchasing a Nigerian- used minibus, a representation he knew to be false.
“He fraudulently obtained the money and kept lying to the complainant and giving excuses why he could not deliver the bus as it was agreed.
“The complainant suspected a foul play and demanded a refund of his money but he was assaulted by the defendant,” the prosecutor alleged.
According to Perezi, the offences violate Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
