Court remands businessman for alleged cheating, breach of trust

A Sharia Court I, sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna on Thursday ordered the remand of one Muhammad Yusuf, a businessman for alleged cheating and breach of trust.

The defendant, a resident of No. 10 River Road, Kabala West Area of Kaduna had pleaded not guilty to the charges before the court and was given an option of N200,000 fine as a bail condition.

The court also ordered him to present a reliable surety, who owns a house in Kaduna.

Earlier, the prosecutor Insp. Ibrahim Shuaibu told the court that the nominal complainant, Aliyu Mohammed, a mechanic, had given Yusuf a Nissan car worth N250,000 and an additional sum of N135,000 cash in exchange for a Peugeot 306 brand.

He said, however, that the defendant had failed to produce the car or money for over a year, adding that the offences contravened section 160 of Shari’a Penal code of Kaduna state.

In his defence, Yusuf denied the claim saying they were untrue.

The judge Malam Muhammad Adamu-Shehu adjourned to Aug. 19, for the complainant to present witnesses.
