Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA in Lagos, Hon. (Dr) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, has distributed WAEC GCE forms to students and school leavers to promote literacy in his district
No fewer than 250 applicants benefited from the education support program which was held at the council secretariat on Monday.
Addressing the beneficiaries, parents and guardians, Dr Apatira disclosed that the annual WAEC GCE forms distribution which is one of the cardinal programmes of his administration is targeted at raising the literacy bar in Itire-Ikate LCDA and the State.
He stated further, “The aim is not just to provide quality education, but to support indigent students and present them with unique opportunities to prepare them for tertiary education.
“Education is key and the only way you can give that to the people is to give an opportunity to everyone willing to study and make sure they are well educated and that’s what we’re doing.
“The world is evolving therefore it is only people with quality academic and educational backgrounds that tend to cope with the tide of civilisation and advancement.
“Those who grew up poor but educated themselves have high chances to transform their lives, thus contributing to a decrease in society’s poverty and crime rates.
“Education is of key essence for modern society. It moulds people into leaders and also shows them how to lead with emotions and true values.
“Those who are educated can easily differentiate between right and wrong and by so doing it helps to reduce crime rate and other social vices.
“Therefore, bearing this in mind, WAEC GCE attempt by beneficiaries of this educational support is the first crucial step towards achieving success in their educational pursuits.”
He advised beneficiaries to concentrate on their studies and aim for the best in their educational pursuit as he also enjoined parents to give their wards ample time to study.
