Community leaders petition Gov Ishaku over threat to security

IshakuCOMMUNITY leaders of Kaaor, Age, Gough, Tompo and Compo-Gbenger communities in Takum local government area of Taraba have petitioned Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state over plans to attack their communities.

This was contained in a press statement issued in Jalingo on Monday and signed by the village heads of the communities, Zaki Thomas Yamsa, Zaki Dekaa Tor and Chief Hiiga Kaam.

The community in the press statement also said there has been continuous destruction of their farms and economic trees by some Kuteb youths called on Governor Darius Ishaku to intervene in the issue before it degenerate.

“We are deeply worried about the rising tension in our area following activities of some unscrupulous elements who are bent on causing breach of peace in our communities.

“Our area belongs to Takum local government, but some Kuteb people in the neighbouring Yanghtu Development Area are coercing our people to declare their loyalty to Yanghtu as a precondition for peace.

“Our refusal to accept being in Yanghtu Development Area has led to unprovoked attacks on our farms and economic trees,” the statement read.

The leaders who said the unprovoked attacks on them was a ploy to throw the communities into another round of crisis called on their people to remain calm and continue to avoid things that would lead to break down of law and other.

The statement quoted the leaders as saying, “crisis will not solve the problem, but dialogue will. So, we call on Governor Darius Ishaku to quickly intervene to solve the problem.”
