A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, MalamGarbaShehu, in Abuja, said the two senior members of the family died within a few hours of one another.
According to Shehu, one of the deceased, Hajiya Halima Dauda, was the president’s niece and younger sister to his close associate and nephew Malam Mamman Daura.
Halima Dauda, aged 56, who has since been buried in Daura, left behind 10 children, including one of President Buhari’s Personal Assistants, Mohammed Sabi’u Tunde.
The presidential aide revealed that the burial was attended by a federal government delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari.
Others on the team were the Minister of State, Aviation, Sen. HadiSirika; three Senior Special Assistants to the President, Sarki Abba, Ya’uDarazo and Garba Shehu; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ahmed Abubakar.
Others included the State Chief of Protocol, Amb. LawalKazaure, the Permanent Secretary, State House Jalal Arabi, AlhajiIsma’ila Isa and SayyuDantata both of them businessmen.
The Buhari family had earlier on buried Hajiya Ai’sha Alhaji Mamman on Friday. She was the wife of the President’s older brother, Alhaji Mamman.
Receiving condolences on behalf of the Buhari family, MalamMamman, thanked God for the lives of the deceased and all the visitors for sharing the moment of grief with them.
Shehu disclosed that among those received by the family in Daura were the Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu and a former Military Governor of Kaduna State, retired Brig.-Gen. JafaruIsa.Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris on Saturday visited Daura, Katsina, where he condoled with President MuhammaduBuhari over the demise of his sister-in-law, Hajiya Aisha Mamman.
Speaking during the visit, Idris described her death as “a big loss, not only to Buhari, her immediate family, Katsina state but to Nigeria as whole’’.
The police boss prayed God to repose her soul, while he urged the president as well as the entire family to take her death as an act of God.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Ibrahim Kpotun-Idris, on Saturday, visited Daura, where he condoled President Muhammadu Buhari over the demise of his sister-in-law.
Speaking during a condolence visit, Idris described her death as a big loss, not only to the President, her immediate family, Katsina State but to Nigeria in general.
According to a statement by IGP media aide, Alhaji Mohammed Baba-Busu, a copy of which was made available to Sunday Tribune in Abuja, the police boss prayed God to repose her soul, while he urged the president as well as the entire family members to take her death as an act of God.
Responding, President Buhari commended the IGP for the visit and described death as inevitable end for all mortals.
Similarly, IGP Idris visited Maiduguri, Borno State capital where he commiserated with the Buratai family over the death of their father, Alhaji Yusuf Buratai.
He also offered similar prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased, while urging Lt Gen Tukur Burutai, the Chief of Army Staff and the entire family to faithfully bear the irreparable loss.
Burutai lauded the police chief for the visit and said that the family members were consoled with the multiple of prayers offered for their departed father.
“IGP Idris said in an interview that the demise of the esteemed and highly revered sister-in-law to the president and father of the army chief is a great loss of inestimable quantum.
He said that the country, Nigeria will miss their wise counsel and wealth of experience.
The police boss said that he was deeply touched when he received the sad news of their death.
He said that it was significant that throughout their remarkable life, they both retained the humble and unassuming mien of a technocrat, saying as a leader, they retained the respect of all and sundry.
Atiku condoles with Buhari, Buratai
Former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, also commiserated with President Buhari over the passing away of his Hajiya Aisha Mamman.
In a statement through his Twitter handle, on Saturday, Atiku, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also commiserated with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai over the demise of his father and World War II Veteran, Malam Yusuf Buratai.
“On behalf of the Abubakar Atiku family, I commiserate with President Buhari over the passing on of his sister-in-law, Hajiya Aisha Mamman.
“May Allah grant her Aljannah Firdaus, and grant the Danbaffale Mamman family in Daura the fortitude to bear the loss. Amen.”
Atiku added: “Malam Yusuf Buratai, a World War II Veteran and father of COAS Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai will be remembered for his services to keep country and the world safe and united.
