In continuation of rescue operations of the devastating flood disaster in Maiduguri and its environs, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Muhammed Lawal Yusuf on Saturday, visited the collapsed bridge on Lagos in Maiduguri metropolis to ascertain the extent of destruction and possible mitigation.
The efforts are part of the proactive steps put in place by the Command to address the aftermath of the devastating flood incident.
In line with the Executive Order signed by the State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the Command deployed Police personnel to enforce restrictions on movement on the bridge.
This decision was made after a technical assessment by specialists who revealed potential risks if the remaining part of the bridge is overwhelmed by heavyweight traffic.
The CP directed Officers and Men deployed to maintain professionalism while discharging their duties and respecting the fundamental human rights of citizens.
Mohammed Lawal Yusufu sympathised with the affected members of the public and solicited their maximum cooperation and support during this period.
Meanwhile, on the 2024 Eid-ul-Maulud Celebrations, CP ML Yusufu has encouraged Citizens of the State to reflect and pray for peace, progress, and unity of the State as he extended warm greetings to the Muslim faithful as they celebrate Eid-ul-Maulud in the State.
In striving to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Maulud celebration, the CP has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical commanders to increase visibility patrols and secure highways across the State.
Additionally, the Command has deployed ample operational resources and implemented various intelligence strategies to preempt any potential threats to public safety during this festive period.
The CP urged citizens to remain vigilant and celebrate responsibly while adhering to the law reminding parents and guardians to kindly counsel their children against engaging in any behaviour that could disrupt the peace of the State.
In extending felicitations to members of the public celebrating Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), the Commissioner of Police called on religious leaders, worshipers, and residents of the State to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies, as comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth celebration.
