Riot chronicles events reminiscent of the #EndSARS protest which took the Internet by storm in the late 2020. It paints a vivid picture of the courageous and unprecedented resolve of the Nigerian youths to fight for a cause in unison.
Henry Fowler, a Nigerian returnee and Computer Science graduate of Stanford University, California, USA, is caught in the mix as the youths take the centre stage in a mother of all protests, fund-raising and attracting massive media coverage that reverberates from Lagos to London, New York to Ottawa.
When sponsored people with vested interests start infiltrating the mob, the goal swiftly shifts. The centre can no longer hold as things turn drastically violent, and the going gets tough.
‘The Treasure’s protagonist, Ade Akindele is a fresh graduate of Accountancy in fruitless search of job. He has a brainwave to set up a thriving business, servicing the need of his local community. He approaches his dotting grandmother who comes through with a large jewelry collection. ‘The One-Million Dollar Mirage’ is a story of success, hope and fears; aspiration and optimism.
Fame, money-spinning career and honour, Mabel Abel, the music pop star has got them all. He is the new kid on the block with limitless potential. Without warning, Mabel risks it all, jettisoning his Lagos, Nigeria base in search of the proverbial greener pasture in New York-A one-million-dollar mirage that has him going round in circles, teaching him invaluable lessons as he stands on the precipice of life.
According to Odeseye, the book highlights life’s invaluable lessons in different facets. “It underscores the fallibility of the human race in making choices which often mar, rather than make; the price often paid for stardom, the power of positive thinking and the risk of betting against odds. It explicitly reveals how life teaches indelible lessons, brings to the fore that resilience often leads to success and gives insights into real-life occurrences in the Nigerian entertainment industry,” he said.
Published by Excel Publishing Group, the book is on Amazon and other platforms.
Odeseye has written several books, having developed a passion for writing at a young age, prequel to having a career in journalism. His works include the non-fiction children’s book, Majidat: A Quintessential Jewel and Choices: Life Is A Teacher.
