Austin Agada in the early hours of Sunday emerged as the new state chairman of the All Progressive Congress in Benue State.
Agada polled 1,385 votes out of 1,500 delegates to emerge the state chairman while his opponent, Omale Omale who later boycotted the election.
The Congress which was held at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi did not commence until the late hours of Saturday.
Declaring the result of the poll, the Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr Abubakar Muhammed explained that of the 36 positions only the position of state chairman had two contestants.
Mohammed listed unopposed positions to include; deputy chairman, secretary, assistant secretary, zonal vice chairman of Zone A, B and C.
Other unopposed positions according to Muhammed include the State Legal Adviser, Assistant legal adviser, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Assistant Financial Secretary and State Organising Secretary, Assistant Organising Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Assistant Publicity Secretary, Welfare Secretary and Assistant Welfare Secretary.
The list also includes State Auditor, Assistant State Auditor, Women leader, Assistant Women leader, Youth Leader, Assistant Youth Leader, Senatorial youth leader of Zone A, B and C, Senatorial Women leader of Zone A, B and C, Ex officio 1,11,111 and 1V as well as the leader of people with disability.
The electoral committee chairman said that the election was free and fair and expressed confidence that the party is poised to capture the state comes 2023.
Also speaking, the minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator George Akume said that the party would legitimately take over the state in 2023.
