Election all over the world provides the electorate the opportunity to choose leaders who will represent them at all levels of government for the satisfaction of their needs and aspirations. It is a referendum on the performances of the government in power, whether it has done well or not.
Removal of Onnoghen as CJN is proper, timely ― Forum of presidential candidates
As the 2019 general elections draw closer, the moment to take crucial political decision for the survival of Nigeria and her democracy is upon us. Unfortunately, the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government has performed woefully and the alternatives out there cannot do better; leaving Nigerians in dilemma with longer days of murkiness ahead of us.
Even if there will be light at the end of the tunnel, the light will probably come in the next four years depending on how desirous the people of this country are to changing the current political order. For those Nigerians who have a figment of imagination that all is well with the current political parties, considering their structures, visibility, financial strength and the type of people that run the affairs of these parties; need to wake up from their slumber.
The current government of APC rode on the mantra of “Change” to power. They managed to win the heart of Nigerians through propaganda and Spiral Silence Theory. All that they used to campaign against the previous Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government, they are guilty of today.
Do we have a reliable alternative to APC? The answer is no. The main opposition party PDP was in power for 16 years with massive allegations of corruption, favouritism and cronyism. I don’t think they have anything to offer Nigeria other than what they offered us in the past. Did the government of PDP perform well in office? Not really.
If PDP must come back to power, they have a lot of questions to answer. Where is the alleged $16 billion you invested in the power sector? Why is Ajaokuta Steel Mill not working despite all the money you invested in it? Why is Adani Rice Mill not working? Where is the $2 billion for the purchase of arms to fight Boko Haram? Why were our roads in bad shape few months after you left office? How many refineries did you build?
Other political parties that could have provided succour for us are yet to prove to Nigerians that they are ready to form government. Some of these parties are nothing more than social clubs. They lack structures at ward, local government, state and the federal level.
The PDP and APC have all failed. Unfortunately, we have to choose either to go back to Egypt by voting for PDP or remain in Syria by voting for APC. We have to accept our fate and we must accept it graciously.
