Authors have been against procrastination and to be hardworking in any write-up they wish to lay their hand on in order to have a successful work.
This charge was made on Saturday by the Founder Vale College, Ibadan, Funso Adegbola during the Writers’ Workshop /Authors Conference — a two-day program organised by Purple Bloom publishers for young authors.
Speaking on the topic; ‘Pen and Purpose Authoring Experience into Existence’, she explained that authors must set a goal and timeline in a bid to be successful.
Adegbola, who is also an author, further noted that an author must be creative, resilient and hardworking, adding that it is important for authors to focus on the reason behind their write-up.
She, however, advised authors to always work with people who believe in their ability.
Also speaking at the event, the founder of The Booksellers Limited, Dr Kolade Mosuro, advised authors to never stop reading.
He said for an author to have a good write-up, they must read and gain experience from other people’s works, adding that authors should engage the service of a good publishing house in order to have a good job.
He added that authors should perfect their skills, ensure accuracy, and be original and honest in their write-ups.
Speaking with Tribune Online, the host, Founder of Purple Bloom Publishers, Adejoke Oyekan, explained that the event was organised to enlighten authors on what they need to do, the content they should put out, how to make use of social media and how to network with other authors.
She added that the event was also organised to help the authors how to get better in their write-ups, adding that it is also meant to give the young authors ideas of what to write, and how to sell their content.
She further stated that the two-day event is also meant to reach out to people that authors are writing and books are getting published for the use of people while she urged people on the cultivation of reading culture.
Oyekan however advised young authors to keep pushing even when their works are rejected by publishers.
The event also witnessed panel discussions with different authors who spoke and shared their various experiences.
Also speaking at the event, Ace broadcaster and author, Edmund Obilo, charged the young authors to utilise the power of storytelling with their write ups.
He advised that authors should create or project a future in their writing, write relatable stories, and be deep in their work.
While he also advised them to have a compelling character in their write up, create emotional engagement and as well create engaging plots in their write ups.
