A review of Ademola Ajao’s book, The Master Key for Present and Future Challenges.
AT a time when the Nigerian project is faced with enormous challenges in all areas of human endeavours, Ademola Ajao’s book, The Master Key for Present and Future Challenges, presents ideas which those in positions of authority can tap into to set the country on the path of prosperity and growth.
The book, which has 10 chapters, deals with areas that are of utmost importance to the survival of the country and her people.
It starts with Alternative for Fossil Fuel, where the author highlights why it is necessary for Nigeria and other countries that still rely heavily on fossil fuel for economic survival to look at how to change their approach, especially with the aid of technology.
Ajao cites the growing popularity of electric vehicles in other parts of the world as one of the reasons fossil fuel will no longer be valuable in the nearest future.
He also discusses renewable energy and how it is safe to use compared to fossil fuel, which is burned to produce energy, which is destroying the environment.
Also included are pictorial evidences of the harm fossil fuel is doing to the environment.
The second chapter, Total intolerance for corruption, focuses on the greatest challenge facing Nigeria and many other countries, especially in Africa – corruption.
Corruption has stifled the growth of many countries, and the author asserts that if countries truly want to achieve their potentials, then there must be total intolerance for corruption.
While the author defines corruption as a form of dishonesty or criminal offence undertaken by a person or an organisation entrusted with a position of authority, to acquire illicit benefit or abuse power for one’s private gain, he admits that one of the easiest ways to eradicate the monster is when citizens subject themselves to self-discipline, fear of God and unselfishness.
The author also cites the examples of people, especially Nigerians, who have performed wonderfully well in assignments given to them without being found wanting.
The third chapter, Unfailing leadership, explores the core values of leadership and why leaders must be accountable to their followers.
This chapter also analyses how to accomplish unfailing leadership. This particular section of the book should be studied by those in positions of authority for them to be able to understand those things expected of them as leaders.
In the fourth chapter, Revive agriculture, the author explains how agriculture should be practiced in Nigeria. This section also gives insight into how to reduce the farmers/herdsmen’s clashes, while it urges youths to go into agriculture to tackle unemployment.
Subsequent chapters focus on innovation, security, sports as tool for unity, among others.
While the book is primarily targeted at Nigeria and Nigerians, the template given can be used by other African countries for their development model.
At a time when various ideas are being put forward on how to make the country work, Ajao’s template will definitely go a long way in bringing about a better Nigeria.
