The announcement was officially made by the State Chairman of the party, Chief Derin Adebiyi, in a text message circulated through various social media platforms.
Adebiyi in the message said: “This is to notify all party faithful and stakeholders that the Governorship primaries originally scheduled for today (Sunday) has been Postponed. A further announcement will be made upon receipt of firm clarification from the National Headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tribune Online had in the early hours of the day gathered from a reliable source that the committee in charge of the gubernatorial primary was yet to arrive the state from Abuja with election materials to be used in the conduct of the exercise.
The 8-man committee is chaired by Muhammed Indabawa as chairman and Senator Gbenga Aluko as Secretary.
Other members of the governorship primaries committee include Ali Magashi; Hon. Matthew Omeagara; Kabir Ahmed; Osita Okechukwu; Echeza Oshogwe and Alhaji Abdulazeez Anuhi respectively.
It was gathered that the committee will be meeting with the six governorship aspirants. They are Senator Adegbenga Kaka; Hon. Abayomi Hunye; Mr. Dapo Abiodun; Otunba Bimbo Ashiru; Hon. Adekunle Akinlade and Mr. Jimi Lawal, on arrival.
This development probably necessitated the shift in the date of the primary election.
However, there was uncertainty and confusion everywhere across the state, as some party members conducted the exercise with the supervision of the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
It was gathered that members of the party participated in the exercise, despite the non-arrival of the committee mandated to conduct the exercise.
At Ward 6, Itoko, some party faithful engaged themselves in a free-for-all which was later quelled by operatives of the Nigeria Police.
