A few days before the national convention of the All Progressive Congress (APC), a national chairmanship aspirant of the party, Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has withdrawn from the race saying he respects the zoning agreement.
Addressing a press conference on Monday night at his residence in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, Dr Sani Shinkafi said he withdrew from his ambition to be national chairman in deference to the party supremacy and the President.
“I want to tell you that today I decided to withdraw from the contest as a man who respects party supremacy and respect to my leaders in the party.

“I am sure that most of you have been following the trends of activities of our party APC. The struggle has been on. I have all the requisite credentials both financially and otherwise.
“The party has taken a position that the position of national chairman should go to the North Central zone and I respect the supremacy.
“President Buhari is the leader of the party and he has taken a position. I have always told you that I will contest if the position is zoned to Northwest. I do not want to oppose what my president has said.”
He thanked all those who supported him during the struggle to run as national chairman.
