Amechi Awkunanaw dispute: Enugu govt cautions Nwobodo’s kinsmen, others against breakdown of peace

Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi,

Deeply concerned about the lingering crisis in Amechi Awkunanaw community, Enugu South Local Government Area, the home of governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, and its resultant implication on the peace and security of the community, the Enugu State government has cautioned all parties involved in the dispute to ensure that there is no breakdown of peace and order.

The warning was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, who stressed that the state government was greatly concerned about the unabated crisis and its effect on the peace and security of the community.

The state government consequently invited the chairman of Enugu South LGA, Monday Eneh, and the traditional ruler of Amechi Awkunanaw Community, Igwe Anthony Ogbodo Okorie, to a meeting with the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr Charles Egumgbe on Tuesday, October 5.

It would be recalled that the Amechi community has been embroiled in a communal feud over ownership of some parcels of land which the state government is accused of grabbing for non-public interests.

Efforts made so far by the local leaders and the government to resolve the issue have not yielded the expected results, hence the intervention of the state government to forestall any breach of law and order in the area
