Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, has called on religious leaders to use their pulpits to sensitise their members and residents of the state to support the reviewed Land Use Charge (LUC), just as he urged residents to be part of the review of the law by participating in the public hearing soon to come up on floor of the State House of Assembly so that their positions and wishes would be reflected.
Ambode made the call while speaking at the first quarterly meeting of Lagos State National Inter-Religious Council (NIREC).
Present at the Forum were both Christian and Muslim leaders drawn from the 57 Local Governments (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
Governor Ambode, who was speaking against the background of outcry that has trailed the law, said it was the love for residents that made him to reduce the charges though the law had not been reviewed by the State House of Assembly.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Abdulhakeem Abdulateef, urged Lagosians to understand that there was no good governance without challenges, maintaining that the review of the LUC Act was to generate more funds for development.
He urged religious leaders to support his administration and work to ensure that peace continues to reign in the state, saying peace was critical to uninterrupted development of the state.
Governor Ambode, while noting that since he became governor, the state had not witnessed any religious crisis due to the support and cooperation of religious leaders, said this was why they must continue to work with him so that peace continued to reign be in Lagos.
The commissioner, in his own address, appealed to the people to continue to support Governor Ambode’s programmes and projects as the revenue generated was being used judiciously to transforming the state through execution of projects that impacted the people.
He also told the religious leaders to use their position to engage the people and give the state government feedbacks.
