A professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abdulroheem Mustapha Adejoro, has been installed as the Alafin of Afin Akoko, in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State, by the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu.
At the installation ceremony held last weekend in Afin Akoko, Governor Akeredolu presented the traditional ruler with the staff of office and urged him to use his stature to attract rapid development to the town.
The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Mr Segun Odusanya, congratulated Oba Adejoro and charged him to make his reign conducive to the uplift of his people.
Governor Akeredolu advised the traditional ruler to extend the olive branch to those who contested the throne with and carry them along in moving Afin Akoko forward.
Earlier, the chairman of Akoko North West Local Government Area, Mr Ayodele Akande, described the process that produced the traditional ruler as free, fair and transparent.
Akande said given 15-year interregnum in Afin Akoko, there was the need for all residents to cooperate with their new traditional ruler to speed up the development of the town.
In a remark, Oba Adejoro thanked the state governor for approving his selection and presenting him with the staff of office.
He called on his co-contestants to join hands with him to move the town forward.
He called on youths in the town to shun crime and embrace government’s vocational and other intervention programmes aimed at reducing the rate of unemployment in the area.
