ABU to deliver distance learning courses through TV series

The Distance Learning Centre, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, will soon commence its distance learning academic courses through film production and television series in line with global trends.

To this end, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dorayi Film and Distributing Company that will help in promoting the academic programmes run by the Centre through film production and television series.

In a statement issued by the Directorate Public Affairs office of the Vice-chancellor on Tuesday and made available to the Nigerian Tribune, it was noted that both parties, according to the Memorandum of Understanding, agreed to come together to deepen the mutual media corporation in the areas of film production, film starring, and sponsoring.

“Under the MoU, the Distance Learning Centre, having established itself as a leading institution in modern open distance and e-learning deliveries, shall sponsor the production of a movie titled ‘MISALI’, retain the television rights of the production, and own the intellectual property rights.

“On its own part, Dorayi Film and Distributing Company, a Kano-based television production firm, shall be responsible for script writing, casting, production, editing, completion, marketing, and all other responsibilities in producing the television series.

“The duration for the production of the TV series, according to the MoU, shall be for a period of four months, effective from November 13, 2023, to March 13, 2024.

Equally, the parties shall, for the purpose of understanding, be responsible for encouraging mutual value in entertainment and advertising, as well as participating in any organised events.

Speaking at the brief event, the Director, Distance Learning Centre, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. M.I. Sule, who signed the MoU on behalf of the Centre, stressed that under the agreement, the Centre would be “well protected and promoted.”

The Deputy Director, Administration, ABU Distance Learning Centre, Dr. Salim B. Magashi, who gave an overview of the MoU, described the production as all-encompassing and said that the project would begin in earnest.

Malam Nazir Adam Salihi signed the MoU on behalf of Dorayi Film and Distributing Company, with Malam Aminu Shehu, a staff member of the film production firm, in attendance.

Those present at the event from the Distance Learning Centre included Deputy Director, Learning Support Service and IT, Prof. Suleiman Aliyu Shika; Deputy Director, Academic, Dr. Maryam Dewu; Finance Officer, Malam Shehu Yahaya; and Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Aishat I. Baballe.
