Abiola Kila Onalaja, founder of Abiola Inspires and convener of the Inspire To Excel programme, has taken bold steps to empower Nigerian youths by providing mentorship and opportunities for growth. This transformative initiative brought together industry leaders, innovators, and mentors from diverse fields to guide young individuals on achieving success in their chosen careers and businesses.
Designed to equip participants with practical tools, strategic insights, and financial support, Inspire To Excel, which held at the Lagos Oriental Hotel addressed the challenges faced by budding entrepreneurs and professionals while offering actionable strategies to help them scale their endeavours. The event featured interactive workshops, goal-setting sessions, and a dynamic panel discussion that inspired participants to take charge of their future.
A key highlight was the provision of startup funds, offering participants a financial boost to accelerate their business ventures. This innovative approach reinforced the programme’s commitment to nurturing sustainable growth and fostering economic independence among Nigerian youths.
Sharing her vision, Onalaja stated: “From my journey, I realised that a lot of people in the career and business world desire the chance to do well, but also deserve the opportunity to excel. Many struggle to succeed, and there’s one common reason, they lack someone to hold their hand. Reflecting on my own experience, I realised that with more guidance and mentorship, I could have advanced faster. This realisation inspired me to ensure that as I climb the ladder of success, I don’t go alone; I take others with me. Inspire To Excel is all about guiding Nigerian youths, giving them the tools and opportunities to succeed. I believe more people should embrace this mindset: don’t go to the top alone; take as many people as you can.”
Onalaja also emphasised the vital role of entrepreneurship in Nigeria’s economic growth, stating: “Entrepreneurship is the answer to Nigeria’s economic development.”
Entrepreneurs create revenue, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to the nation’s labour force. Beyond that, innovation and technology are essential, not just for entrepreneurs but for professionals in any field. These tools help individuals climb the career ladder faster and become more productive. The world is evolving rapidly, and it’s time for Nigeria not just to join the journey but to lead as a pacesetter.”
The programme highlighted the importance of personal responsibility in harnessing opportunities, with Onalaja challenging participants to take proactive steps toward self-improvement rather than relying solely on government interventions. “Government initiatives exist, but they are not always impactful. It’s easy to rely on external decisions, but real change starts with us. When individuals rise to the occasion, building skills and seizing opportunities, collective progress accelerates. The government is the people. If every household and individual commits to growth, we’ll rise faster as a nation.”
More than just an event, Inspire To Excel is a movement. It seeks to build a robust mentorship community, equipping individuals with tools and skills to set and achieve their goals. Participants can also access ongoing webinars, offering continuous guidance and support.
Onalaja concluded: “This is only the beginning. We’re not just here to gather people; we’re building a community that sustains growth. By equipping mentors and participants alike, we’re ensuring that Nigerian youths have access to everything they need to excel. Don’t go alone. Take as many as you can with you.”
The Inspire To Excel programme is a testament to how mentorship, entrepreneurship, and innovation can transform lives and redefine Nigeria’s future.
Also speaking at the event, Founder, Generation Next, Olufunke Fajusibe, said, “A world without the next phase is a dead world. The next generation is the power and future of the world. For us at Generation Next, our goal is to ensure that young Nigerians have two feet on the ground in all ramifications. The youths need to be supported and encouraged and this is what Inspire to Excel is about – dream, grow and achieve.”
