Abducted commercial driver regains freedom in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command, on Monday, confirmed that the commercial driver, Felix Akinde, abducted by kidnappers along Ado Ekiti/ Akure road has regained his freedom.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, who confirmed this to Nigerian Tribune said the Akinde was released last weekend

Joseph who said the Command will soon invite the released victim to interrogate him in order to investigate the incident, vowing that the criminals would be brought to book soon.

He, however, did not confirm payment of ransom before the commercial driver was released after spending some six days in the kidnapper’s den.

The released commercial driver was said to have visited the Ado garage in Akure on Sunday to appreciate his colleagues role in securing his freedom.

He was said to have been released after payment of an unspecified amount of ransom and he was said to be receiving treatment at a hospital in Ado Ekiti.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, last Tuesday evening, reportedly abducted Akinde, while driving towards Akure from Ado Ekiti, when the hoodlums who had blocked the roads stopped him and reportedly took him and the passengers away.

The hoodlums who Kidnapped him contacted the Akinde’s family, demanding N5m ransom before reducing to N2m.

All efforts to reach the victim to speak on his experience but were not successful.
