Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Ayodele Fayose, has said the conferment of Aare Ona Kakanfo title on the leader of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Chief Gani Adams was worthy, describing it as “putting a round peg in a round hole.”
Governor Fayose said in a statement on Wednesday that the title, conferred by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, left him with no doubt that “the cap fits Adams going by the pedigree of the recipient of the prestigious title.”
In the statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, Fayose said “Oba Adeyemi made the right choice in the appointment of Adams as the Generalissimo of the Oyo Empire,” saying “in the Yoruba tradition, before a person is conferred with a chieftaincy title, he must have certain leadership qualities and the title of the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland is for that bold, courageous, exemplary man who burns with the zeal to defend our land and protect her interest. All these are not lacking in the character of Otunba Gani Adams.”
He also congratulated Oba Lamidi Adeyemi “for making the right choice and being able to fill the vacancy that existed for nearly two decades after the demise of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.”
Also congratulating Adams, the leader of OPC in Ekiti State, Adeniyi Adedipe, said the body’s National Coordinator deserved the title of Aare Ona Kakanfo, and also hailed Oba Adeyemi, for considering Adams worthy for the prestigious title describing the recipient as a “round peg in a round hole.”
Adedipe, who is the Apase Oodua, who spoke through his assistant, Lateef Kamorudeen, described Adams as “as a courageous defender of the cause of the Yoruba all over the world who has paid a great price to keep the race united.”
He also described Adams as “the chief promoter of Yoruba culture throughout the globe” saying his efforts have elevated the race’s culture and traditions to global acceptance.
