A lipoma is a soft, slow-growing, benign tumor composed of fat cells. It is the most common type of soft tissue tumor. Lipomas can occur anywhere in the body, but they are most often found in the neck, back, shoulders, arms, and legs.

The exact cause of lipomas is unknown, but they are thought to be caused by a mutation in a gene that regulates fat cell growth. Lipomas are not cancerous and do not spread to other parts of the body. Lipomas are typically soft, movable, and painless.

They can range in size from a small pea to a large grapefruit. In most cases, lipomas do not cause any problems.

However, if a lipoma is large or located in an area that is subject to pressure or friction, it can become painful.

Lipomas usually do not require treatment. However, if a lipoma is causing pain or discomfort, there are several treatment options available such as; Liposuction, Surgery or Injection therapy. The outlook for lipoma is excellent. Lipomas are not cancerous and do not spread to other parts of the body. Treatment is usually not necessary, but it can be done to relieve pain or discomfort.
