A total of 2,800 state civil servants employed by the Bauchi State Government are set to write the 2024 Batch A and B Civil Service promotion examination, which will be conducted before the end of the year.
The announcement was made by the State Head of Civil Service, Alh. Yahuza Haruna Adamu, during the 2024 Batch ‘A’ and ‘B’ Civil Service promotion examination sensitization workshop held on Wednesday at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Hall in Bauchi.
He stated that his office would continue to monitor and enforce strict examination protocols to ensure the highest standards of conduct are maintained.
The Head of Service also warned civil servants who are to participate in the examination against malpractices or any unethical behaviors before, during, and after the exercise.
Yahuza Adamu mentioned that the state government had already initiated disciplinary actions against those caught engaging in malpractice during the previous examinations to serve as a stern warning to anyone considering compromising the integrity of the exercise.
He said, “I want to send this message: we have taken a zero-tolerance approach to exam malpractice in our recent promotion exams. Let me be clear; any form of cheating or unethical behavior will not be condoned.”
He further emphasized that examinations are a critical component of the current administration’s efforts to ensure the state civil service remains vibrant, dynamic, and responsive to the needs of citizens.

The Head of Service added that the workshop was designed to equip civil servants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and strategies to excel in the examination.
He congratulated the outstanding workers who recently passed their examinations with an impressive 85 percent pass rate, saying, “Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence have truly paid off, and we are all proud of their achievement.”
He noted that their success serves as a testament to the high standards of the state civil service and reflects their tireless efforts to serve the state.
The Head of Service urged those preparing for the examination to be inspired by their colleagues’ success and strive for greater heights, saying, “Aim to exceed the 85% benchmark and set new records of excellence.”
Yahuza Adamu also urged them to remember that “your success is not just a personal achievement but also a reflection of our collective commitment to public service. So, stay focused, work diligently, and believe in yourselves. You truly have the potential to excel and make us proud—go out there and make it happen.”
In his remarks, the state chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his unwavering support for the civil service in the state.
Abubakar Usman, represented by the Commission’s Permanent Commissioner III, Alhaji Nasir Mohammed Yalwa, recalled that the Bauchi State Civil Service was once considered one of the best in the country and served as a reference point for other states. He noted that other states used to visit Bauchi to replicate its policies and programs.
He pointed out that with the embargo on employment and mass retirements, a significant generation gap had been created, negatively affecting the performance of civil servants in the state.
To reverse this trend, he mentioned that the current administration in the state has set a number of reforms to regain the lost glory of the civil service in the state.
According to him, “One such measure is the introduction of examinations before Permanent Secretaries are appointed.”
In his opening speech, Mohammed Sani Umar ESQ., Permanent Secretary of the Establishment and SERVICOM Matters Bureau, welcomed the participants and wished them the best as they embarked on their journey. He said, “We hope this workshop will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and expertise necessary to excel in your roles and take on new challenges.”
He explained, “This workshop is a significant milestone in our efforts to provide excellence in the Civil Service, and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on our civil servants and the wider society.
“So, let us begin this journey together with enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to excellence.”
He also expressed gratitude to the consultants and resource persons for their expertise and guidance throughout the workshop, stating, “Your inputs and contributions are invaluable.”
Some of the participants expressed confidence that they would pass the examination, having prepared well for it, supported by the instructions they had received through various lectures and meetings in their respective MDAs.
