8th Synod: Uttermost expectations of God is faithfulness — Anglican Diocese

The 3rd Session of the 8th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Gusau has urged its members to be patient, tolerant, and work towards building a nation where tribal, ethnic, and religious sentiments will no longer be dividing factors but rather unite people under God.

This message was conveyed in a communiqué issued on Saturday in Gusau, Zamfara State, at the conclusion of the 3rd session of the 8th synod of the Anglican Diocese of Gusau, jointly signed by Rev’d Canon Ademola Michael, Synod Clerical Secretary, Chief Barr. Joshua D. Ephraim, Diocesan Chancellor, and the Rt. Rev’d John Garba Danbinta, President of the Synod.

The session took place under the guidance of the Holy Spirit at the Cathedral Church of Christ in Gusau, presided over by the President of the Synod, the Rt. Rev’d John Garba Danbinta, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Gusau.

The theme of the 3rd Session of the 8th Synod was “Occupy till I come,” taken from Luke 19:13. In his address, the President of the Synod, Rt. Rev’d J.G. Danbinta, reminded Christians of God’s instructions and the kingdom mandate to occupy until He comes.

Christians were reminded that God has graciously provided all they need to be relevant in the environment where He has placed them.

“We are expected to be very committed to the issues of the kingdom because the Master is coming back to require an account from each one of us according to the abilities God has given us.”

He emphasised that the utmost expectation from God is faithfulness in what He has entrusted to them.

The President of the Synod strongly condemned the corruption that has almost become a way of life for many Nigerians. He called for genuine repentance, both from the church and society, in order to build a nation that everyone can be proud of.

He welcomed the new administration at the federal and state levels and urged the government to do everything within their powers, as mandated by the constitution, to end insecurity and alleviate the suffering caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy.

The Synod encouraged Nigerians to maintain faith and continue to pray for a better Nigeria. “We must be patient and tolerant towards one another and work towards building a nation where tribal, ethnic, and religious sentiments will no longer be dividing factors, but where we can become a united people under God.”

The synod was attended by synod delegates, including clergy and lay members, Diocesan officials from all churches in the Diocese, and Mama Gusau, Mrs. Helen J.G. Danbinta, President of the Women’s Guild and Mothers’ Union of the Anglican Diocese of Gusau.

The Synod also received many dignitaries, including the Most Rev’d Dr. Timothy Yahaya, Archbishop of Kaduna Province and Bishop of Kaduna Diocese; the Synod Preacher; the Rt. Rev’d Benson Chukwunweike, Bishop of Awgu/Aninri; the Rt. Rev’d Yusuf Janfalan, Bishop of Ikara Diocese; the Rt. Rev’d Markus Yohanna Danbinta, Bishop of Dutse Diocese; the Rt. Rev’d Ishaya Baba, Bishop of Zaria Diocese; Ven. Christopher Ogbodo from Awka Diocese; and Ven. (Col.) Davou Nuhn Zang, Bible Study Facilitator from Wusasa Diocese.

Also in attendance were the Chancellor of Gusau Diocese, Chief Barr. Joshua D. Ephraim; the Registrar, Sir Barr. Sam Anosike; and Barr. L.G. Waziri, Diocesan Legal Officers.
